Poland

Customer:

POSCO E&C

Introduction/challenge:

The EPC contractor was oblivious to the very strict local regulations and standards which had to be explained and then applied in the basic and detailed design of the E&I scope. Installation works were conducted at the same time as the design study.

Solutions:

We provided thorough consulting services on the Polish standards and regulations and worked in two locations  – our design office on construction site thus ensuring close cooperation of electrical designers, the installation contractor and the customer.

Scope of design:

  • specific calculations for connection to the public grid operator
  • electrical design of MV power distribution system including measurement system, relays and protections settings, selection and design of MV inverters and harmonic analysis
  • electrical design of the LV power distribution system including relays and protection settings, selectivity, and design of LV inverters
  • design and detail engineering of the Emergency Diesel Generator unit
  • comprehensive design of cable trays, power cable calculations, preparation of cable schedules
  • design of the earthing system for the entire plant
  • site supervision during installation works
  • as-built documentation

Customer:

Termomechanica Ecologica

Introduction/challenge:

TME continued works and deliveries within the WtE plant as a replacement of the previous EPC Contractor who left the site.  Our challenge was to deliver E&I&C studies for the overall plant within a very tight schedule. The studies were supposed to include existing solutions and their adaptation to the new process requirements from TME.

Solutions:

The works were carried out in office and on site simultaneously together with site surveys. Our engineers supported the on-site installation teams and took part in commissioning and start-up.

Scope of design:

  • electrical design of MV power distribution system including  measurement system, calculation of relay settings, selection and  design of MV inverters, harmonic analysis
  • electrical design of the LV power distribution system including in particular calculation of relay settings and selectivity
  • design and parametrisation of LV inverters
  • design and detail engineering of the Emergency Diesel Generator unit
  • comprehensive design of cable trays, power cable calculations
  • preparation of cable schedules
  • design of the earthing system for the entire plant
  • as-built documentation

Great Britain

Customer:

Babcock Willcox Volund

Introduction/challenge:

We were faced with a challenge related to the relatively big step-up transformer, around 45 MVA, and low short-circuit power in system – there was a voltage drop in the MV network when switching on the transformer.

Solutions:

We used the pre-magnetisation system and magnetised the transformer core with a diesel generator. Thanks to this solution, the switching on of the entire facility was unnoticeable for the overall power system.

Scope of design:

  • complete electrical design of the entire plant and specific calculations for the connection to the public grid operator
  • electrical design of the MV plant including
    • step-up transformer
    • MV/LV transformers
    • MV cables
    • cable trenches  33 and 11kV switchgears
